Abuelitas

I started the day at 8:30 by volunteering with "Abuelitas" which is the name we have for the senior women who have been displaced.  They are taken care of by nuns, very close to the homeless project we did on wednesday.  The neighborhood is very dangerous, so no pictures.  We started helping by making the beds with clean linens, then we folded laundry.  After we finished in the bedroom, we were sent to the roof to help the women up there with the laundry.  We were asked to put all the sweater type shirts up on rafters way high up, using a wooden stick.  The views from the roof we incredible, and we had a nice time helping out up there.  Once we did all the sweaters, t-shirts, and nightgowns, we went down to the dinning room to help prep for lunch.  Lunch for the elderly starts at 10:30, we cut papaya in preparation.  Once the prayer was over we served the ladies lunch.  Some of them were very nice, most were impossible to understand, and others were mentally compromised.  We continued to serve the ladies that sprinkled in, and we gave seconds when needed.  Then we cleaned up the room, and plates after lunch.  We then went back to the apartment via taxi, and arrived at the apartment just before 1.  I knew that Abuelitas wouldn't really be my thing, but I wanted to try everything this week.
